Robert H. Gilman, M.D., D.M.D.
Dr. Gilman, is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Hobart College, Geneva, New York. He received both his Doctor of Medicine and Doctor of Dental Medicine degrees from Boston University.
Dr. Gilman did his residency training in General Surgery in the Boston University Affiliated Hospitals Program. His residency in Head and Neck Surgery was in the Boston University - Tufts University combined program. His residency in Plastic Surgery was done at the University of Michigan.
Dr. Gilman is board certified in both Plastic Surgery and Head and Neck Surgery. He is on the faculty at Harvard Medical School and a member of multiple national and regional societies including: the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons; the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery; the New England Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons; The Massachusetts Society of Plastic Surgery; the Reed O. Dingman Plastic Surgical Society; Northeast Society of Plastic Surgeons; and the Double Boarded Society. Dr Gilman has been practicing plastic surgery in Boston for 30 years. Dr. Gilman also teaches aesthetic plastic surgery in Boston to Harvard Plastic Surgery Residents during their rotation at the Massachusetts General Hospital.
Dr. Gilman has a particular interest in cosmetic and aesthetic surgery including facial cosmetic plastic surgery, breast augmentation, tummy tuck and liposuction. He has a broad experience in general plastic and reconstructive surgery, pediatric plastic surgery and dermatologic plastic surgery.
For the past 14 years Dr Gilman has led a medical team to South America to perform pediatric reconstructive surgery on poor children who would otherwise be passed over in their own countries. He travels for Healing The Children, Northeast, Inc. a 501(c)(3) charitable organization based in Connecticut. The majority of the surgery is for the correction of cleft lips and palates and in support of this surgery Dr Gilman has been the recipient of 4 Smile Train grants. His missions have mostly been to Colombia though he has also traveled to Ecuador. Over the course of these 14 missions his team has operated on nearly 600 children often changing their lives in ways they or their families could only pray for. Besides cleft lip and palate repair his team treats children with other congenital deformities of the face including eyelids and ears and hands, burn reconstruction of the face, arms and hands and body, as well as traumatic deformities and disease-related deformities of all parts of the body. Dr. Gilman has lectured widely on volunteerism in medicine and surgery.
